Thanksgiving 2011

Before I talk about Thanksgiving, I want to let everyone know that there is a Giftoffat page on Facebook!  I am supposed to be able to put a button on my page to link you to it, but I can't figger it out.  So "Like" me. OK?

Back to Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving was YUM.

I got up early and went downtown to run in the turkey trot.  You could choose to walk 2 miles or run 4 miles.

I chose to run 4 miles.

They do the 2 mile/4 mile thing so that the walkers and the runners can be done about the same time.

Except this runner.

I came in last.  Everybody was waiting for me.

Sorry to all of you off-duty officers who came to work the race, hoping you would get home in time to watch the game before the family started to show up.

But it wasn't about winning or losing.  It was about finishing.

Finishing and guilt free Thanksgiving dinner.

SO YUM.

Turkey, asparagus, salad, a bit of corn, a dab of mashed potatoes, a touch of cornbread stuffing.  More salad, another helping of asparagus.  Then a big piece of pumpkin pie.  A BIG one.

The crust was gross, so I just ate the pumpkin.  And the fresh whipped cream.

And it was AWESOME!

How was yours?

Thanks Luisa for shooting this pic!

  1. Good for you for running! It really isn't about how fast you are, but that you do it (cliche, but true). I once ran a 10K race at midnight in the rain in Iceland (it was June 21st, so the sun was still up). I came in near last and had bloody nipples, but the experience was way worth it. Except for the nipples part.

  2. Four miles? Jesus. You put me to shame.

OMG Mary I forgot to tell you! I coerced/begged/threatened my parents to bring up their electric roaster and it was so amazing. Delicious. Moist, savory, oh-so-good turkey meat. And my decision to force my parents to shove their giant roaster in their car was totally validated when the entire family struggled with my possessed oven-- first it was 200 degrees, then it was 400, then it was 200....anyway, thanks to you (SERIOUSLY, THANKS TO YOU, MARY) Thanksgiving was a huge success. I know this sounds really cheesy...but thank you so much for taking the time to email. It meant so much to me AND it saved Thanksgiving.

P.S. You should totally run a Thanksgiving helpline where panicked people can call you and wail WHAT DO I DO?!?

P.P.S. I'm sorry the Facebook button didn't work! I'm off to search for your page right now.

  4. Woohoo! You are a better woman than me for running 4 miles! I could barely do the 5K I participated in on Thanksgiving morning. And I certainly didn't have the willpower you had when it came to Thanksgiving dinner...I stuffed myself silly with carbs, heavy creams, and meat. All in all, it was a great Thanksgiving!!! I'm so glad you had a good one as well!

  5. I am totally impressed! My Thanksgiving exercise involved chasing children around the apartment while trying to finish making the pies, and then several trips between the dinner table and the couch. And the fridge. And the couch. :)

I LOVE to read comments. Seriously. I check them every day. Insecure? Maybe.
